This photo of two monarch butterflies was taken in the summer of 2001. That winter, there was a massive die-out of these beauties, due to frost, where they were wintering in Mexico.While they have been slowly gaining in number, scenes like this are still rare, and will probably be so for some years to come.If you have some outdoor space available to you, try to build a butterfly-friendly garden. They need all the help that they can get, and you may be rewarded with a view like this one.
