A year in the life...

The little villages in France and Italy and Spain that I have visited all have street cats roaming their turf and performing a useful service for the inhabitants. They help to keep the villages free of mice and other vermin. In exchange, they are treated the same as the other residents. Most street cats that I've seen exhibit some sign of the battles they've engaged in. Perhaps a tattered ear or some other damage. That's what makes this cat, in the little Italian town of Gubbio, so unusual. It's in pretty good shape. And it has the tranquil aspect of a feline Buddha, very mellow, yet keeping a careful eye on this American artist.
